There are a number of different ways you can make a mold:
Machine a pocket into a metal mold and then place a 3D printed insert into the machined pocket.
3D print a mold to fit inside an aluminum master mold frame.
Combine different technologies to suit your custom application.
Make a casted metal mold (experimental).

EXPERIMENT DETAILS
3D Print the entire mold without using a metal master mold frame.
(Place a metal washer on top of the mold to prevent the hot nozzle from making direct contact with it)
